HISTORY OF CAD SYSTEM By BUDI Maryanto, ST

The first demonstration of the computer as a means of making an image done in MASSACHUSETTS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY, in 1963 by Dr. Ivan Sutherland, his system at the time was "Sketchpad" by using a cathode ray tube and light pen for input (input) image komputer.Suatu to an earlier system called SAGE, has been developed in the 1950s by the United States Air Defense Command by using a light pen to enter data. CAD systems are used for commercial purposes the first time in 1964 by the International Business Machines (IBM)
Many changes have occurred since the first demonstration conducted by Dr. Ivan Sutherland. The changes caused by the advent of microprocessors, software (programs) are more sophisticated and new applications in the industry. By using the CAD system many cases experienced by planners in conjunction with creating, improving image, obtaining prints (hard copy) and save the images with relative ease by using a fairly small space. CAD was originally used to help create production drawings. Advent of three-dimensional CAD software gives the fact that the 3-D computer model can help not only in manufacturing but also objects, along with a 3-dimensional database.

CAD can be connected either directly or via LOCAL AREA NETWORK (LAN) equipment to manufacture production, or in other words, CAD terminal equipment can be connected to the Numerical Control (NC) for memprogam NC machines automatically in product manufacturing operations.
